Lucerne Event
BÜRGENSTOCK RESORT - LUCERNE (CH)
July 2024
Rachel Birthistle Studio designed a wedding weekend in Lucerne that unfolded across two contrasting spaces. A lakeside villa rich in heritage, and a sleek Alpine hotel reimagined with sculptural greenery, architectural restraint, and artistic detail.
PROJECT BRIEF
Set between an ornate Swiss villa and the modernist lines of the Bürgenstock hotel, this two-part celebration was an exercise in contrast. The Studio introduced bold texture, clean geometry, and refined interventions across both settings.
The weekend began at a private villa on the shores of Lake Lucerne. Guests were welcomed with a standing cocktail reception featuring curated Swiss food stations. Drawing from the villa’s historic interiors, Rachel Birthistle Studio echoed its palette in the florals and punctuated the setting with playful, coloured linens infusing tradition with a light, celebratory spirit.

The wedding took place at the Bürgenstock Hotel, a strikingly modern space perched above the lake. The Studio transformed the empty terrace into an Italianate garden, building boxwood hedging to define the aisle and placing sculptural white arrangements in stone vessels. In line with the bride’s preference for minimalism over florals, the palette leaned into green textures, architectural symmetry, and pared-back elegance.

For the reception, an indoor tennis court was completely reimagined. The orange flooring was covered, and a dramatic fabric light installation was suspended beneath the wooden ceiling. Dark green custom banquettes nestled into concrete alcoves were accented by contemporary artwork from a Puglian artist. Tabletop design remained restrained yet tactile, featuring handmade Laboratorio Paravicini plates that subtly referenced the clean lines and materials of the wider space.
