Marie Daage Paris Collaboration
MARIE DAAGE - PARIS (FR)
November 2023
Rachel Birthistle Studio collaborated with Marie Daage to create a bespoke set of hand-painted plates for a Paris wedding, drawing from the historic interiors of the Opéra Garnier to craft a quiet yet expressive visual language for the table.
PROJECT BRIEF
The Studio adapted a design from Marie Daage’s archive, inverting the palette to feature white detailing on tonal backgrounds. Inspired by the frescoes of the Opéra Garnier, each plate was painted by hand to form part of a continuous floral composition.
For a wedding set within the richly layered interiors of the Opéra Garnier, Rachel Birthistle Studio partnered with porcelain artist Marie Daage to design a custom collection of tableware. Referencing one of Daage’s existing motifs, the Studio reversed the palette, placing white botanical forms over deeply toned grounds drawn from the surrounding frescoes. Each plate was hand-painted and entirely unique florals tracing the curve of a vine that subtly continues onto the corresponding bread plate, forming a visual rhythm across the setting. This collaboration brought together heritage craftsmanship and quiet detail to reflect the atmosphere of the event and its architectural context.
